A Light in the Attic (1981)

There is a light on in the attic.

Though the house is dark and shuddered,

I can see a flickerin' flutter,

And I know what it's about.

There's light on in the attic.

I can see it from the outside,

And I know you're on the inside…lookin' out.

I met a ghost, but he didn't want my head,

He only wanted to know the way to Denver.

I met a devil, but he didn't want my soul,

He only wanted to borrow my bike a while.

I met a vampire, but he didn't want my blood,

He only wanted two nickels for a dime.

I keep meeting all the right people--

At all the wrong times.

(c) Monsters I've Met

Mo memorized the dictionary

But just can't seem to find a job

Or anyone who wants to marry

Someone who memorized the dictionary.

This bridge will only take you halfway there

To those mysterious lands you long to see:

Through gypsy camps and swirling Arab fairs

And moonlit woods where unicorns run free.

So come and walk awhile with me and share

The twisting trails and wonderous worlds I've known.

But this bridge will only take you halfway there--

The last few steps you have to take alone.
